The Formula for Success

Devotions by Jason Hale

TOPIC: The Formula for Success

FOUNDATION SCRIPTURE: Joshua 1:7-8 (NKJV)
7. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Make Your Way Prosperous

God gave Joshua “The Formula for Success” when He instructed him, “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.”

First, God told Joshua what to do: “observe to do according to all the Law which Moses My servant commanded thee.”

It doesn’t get any more plain and simpler than that. No one could work that formula for Joshua; no one can work it for us. If we want a successful life, we have to go after it. No one can win the game of life for us any more than they can cause us to lose it.

Secondly, God told Joshua exactly how to do it: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night…”

In other words, the biblical principles should not stop from coming forth out of Joshua’s mouth, nor stop from coming forth out of our mouths. He wanted Joshua to confess the scriptures and to speak them continually.

Then God told him to meditate in it day and night. The word, “meditate” in this context means we must speak God’s Word to our selves within our selves; to give God’s Word deep and considered thought. We must ponder and reflect on it all the time, so that we may observe to do according to all that is written therein.

Lastly, God told Joshua why he should do these things: “… For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Notice that God didn’t say that He would make our way prosperous. He clearly stated that we shall make our own way prosperous (it's up to us).

Upon reading this, I asked myself, “Make my way prosperous at what? Have good success at what? Are there only specific things in which I can be prosperous and experience good success? Or is He saying, I can prosper at WHATEVER I put my hand to?”

In Psalm 1:2-3, the Psalmist states that we are blessed when we delight (walk according to) the law of the Lord. He states that if we meditate in His Law day and night, we shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth his fruit in his season. Our leaf shall not wither; and WHATSOEVER WE DO SHALL PROSPER.

Well, there is the answer to the question! We can prosper at WHATEVER we put our hands to.

Not everyone is going to be a billionaire real estate investor, or a famous basketball player, or even a billionaire businesswoman and talk show hostess. Why limit ourselves to what someone else has anyway, when we can prosper at whatever we put our hands to?

Whatever our profession—God promised that if we confess, meditate and observe to do according to His word, we WILL prosper and succeed. Nowhere in the Formula for Success did God say it was contingent upon our job or profession. In fact, our prosperity is unique to us as individuals.

We should consider putting our hands to more things.

Remember this: Speaking God's Word, meditating it, and doing what it says, is the formula for success.

You may give easily and securely using the Giving tab below on the app or the Give page on our website. May God bless you according to His promise in the scripture below.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8
But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

Notice: Until you are born again (from above), you will never know the riches of God's love and tender mercy towards you. You must be born again to enjoy continuous victory in this world. Please say the displayed prayer below in faith:

Dear Lord, I come to You now, just as I am.  You know my life.  You know how I've lived.  Forgive me Lord.  I repent of my sins.  I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God,  that He died for my sins and on the third day,  He was raised from the dead.  Lord Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart.  Live Your life in me and through me from now on.  From this day forward, I belong to You, in the Name of Jesus, Amen."

The very moment you commit your life to Jesus Christ, the truth of His Word instantly comes to pass in your spirit. If you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, a miracle has just taken place in your life and there’s a brand-new you!  CONGRATULATIONS! Welcome to the Kingdom of God.
