Maintain A Good Conscience

Devotions by Jason Hale

TOPIC: Maintain A Good Conscience

FOUNDATION SCRIPTUREs: Acts 24:16 (KJV) And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offense toward God, and toward men.

Hebrews 13:18 (KJV) Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Maintaining A Good Conscience

The best way to maintain a good conscience is to live free of offense toward God and men, and to live honestly. We can't have a good conscience and be dishonest. The motive for lying doesn't matter. Having a good conscience means that we will be truthful.

One of the things that happens when we confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, is He purges our conscience from dead works (works that lead to death).

Hebrews 9:13-14  (NIV), 13. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

This means that in the Old Testament, the sacrifices cleansed the people from sinful acts that were committed prior to the sacrificial offering, but it had no power to cleanse the heart so that they would choose to abstain from future trespasses. Thus, they had to repeat the sacrifices every year.

In the New Testament, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses our conscience from works that lead to death, which gives us the inner grace and power to turn away from our sinful behavior, that we may serve the Living God. The blood of Jesus also paid the price for all of our future sins. This doesn't mean that we can go out and offend God with our behavior. It simply means that He won't send us to hell while we are learning to honor Him.

Hebrews 10:1-2, 22 (NIV), 1. The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. 2. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. 22. Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

In verse 22, when he says, "having our bodies washed with pure water," he is talking about our "flesh," also known as our "sinful thinking" being washed with the water of the word.

Look at Ephesians 5:26-27, 26. To make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27. and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

Now, since we have no more conscience of sins when we are saved, it is now up to us to grow and maintain a good conscience by renewing our mind with God's Word, then choosing to follow His Word over our own will.

Counsel: Let us keep a good conscience by not violating our internal sense of right and wrong.

Remember this: Let us not violate our conscience. For our conscience is our internal mechanism that the Holy Spirit uses to guide us. It is how we judge right and wrong.

Receive the grace and desire to maintain a good conscience by choosing to do what is right before God according to His Word.

Hurting people are transformed from the inside out as they learn what it means to live for God and be loved by Him.

You may give easily and securely using the Giving tab below on the app or the Give page on our website. May God bless you according to His promise in the scripture below.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8
But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

Notice: Until you are born again (from above), you will never know the riches of God's love and tender mercy towards you. You must be born again to enjoy continuous victory in this world. Please say the displayed prayer below in faith:

Dear Lord, I come to You now, just as I am.  You know my life.  You know how I've lived.  Forgive me Lord.  I repent of my sins.  I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God,  that He died for my sins and on the third day,  He was raised from the dead.  Lord Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart.  Live Your life in me and through me from now on.  From this day forward, I belong to You, in the Name of Jesus, Amen."

The very moment you commit your life to Jesus Christ, the truth of His Word instantly comes to pass in your spirit. If you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, a miracle has just taken place in your life and there’s a brand-new you!  CONGRATULATIONS! Welcome to the Kingdom of God.

Please contact us and let us know that you’ve prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior.
