TOPIC: What Causes Blessings to Flow?

FOUNDATION SCRIPTURE: Deuteronomy 28:13 (KJV)
“And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Obedience to God’s Word creates an “Alignment” that causes blessings to flow.

Rivers have water currents that flow downward. When boats travel upstream, their engines have to work harder because they are traveling against the current. If the boat is traveling with the current, its engines can sometimes even take a break while the boat continues to travel almost effortlessly. Blessings operate like rivers and obedience is what causes those blessings to flow.

Isaiah 48:17-18 (NKJV)
17. Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go. 18. Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
The Word of God created all things (John 1:3) and the Word holds all things together (Colossians 1:16-17.) The Word holds things together because its power flows directly from God through His Word downward to and through all things.

Like a river that begins its journey from its upstream origin and then surges downward to the low lands of the delta—where it deposits the riches it collected along the way—so is the Word of God. That powerful and sanctified Word loaded with riches flows to us from on high like a mighty river. When we obey it, we travel with its current and are rewarded along the way with spiritual, mental, physical and yes, material bounty in the delta of our lives.

When we don’t obey God’s Word, our lives become difficult and full of struggle (That is why Proverbs 13:15 says that “the way of transgressors is hard”) because we are attempting to travel against the current. However, when we do obey His commandments, then peace, prosperity, wholeness, rest, health, safety, happiness and His favor in our lives will flow as the river. Our righteousness will flow like the waves of the sea as the blessings of God overtake us.

Notice that the scriptures never advise us to seek the blessings. No, the Word commands us to seek the Lord only (Deuteronomy 4:29) and obey His Word (Deuteronomy 13:4.) When we do this, the blessings of God will automatically catch up to us in the current and positively engulf us.

I decree that the abundant blessings of God will overtake you as you live a life of obedience to His Word, in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: Obedience to God’s Word creates an “Alignment” that causes blessings to flow.

ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Quiet your mind and wait on God for at least 5 minutes, then immediately write down your thoughts afterward. 
2. Go through today’s message again.
3. Make up your mind to live for God through obedience to His Word.

PRAYER: Lord, thank You for Your Word to me today. I ask for the grace to obey Your Word in every area of my life and experience the blessings that are promised to those who obey. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
